Sarah Heaton

As a Marcus High School (TX) debater, Sarah Heaton was in late elimination rounds of Greenhill, Glenbrooks, St Mark’s, TFA State, and UIL State tournaments. In addition to speaker awards at such tournaments as Greenhill, Sarah was top speaker at the Colleyville tournament. As a Univ. Texas – Austin debater, Sarah reached the late elimination rounds of the Georgia State, Northwestern, Univ. of Southern-Cal, Baylor, and Wayne State tournaments. She also won the Wake Forest first-year breakout tournament, reached the quarterfinals of Novice Nationals, twice qualified for the NDT, and reached the double octo-finals of the NDT. Currently a Masters candidate in Social Work at Columbia University and also the director of policy debate at Bronx Science High School, her teams have reached the elimination rounds of such tournaments as St Marks, Greenhill, and Lexington.

Steve Mancuso


Steve Mancuso has coached college debate for 25 years, including 15 years at the University of Michigan, 3 years at Catholic University, 3 years at Miami University and 1 year at Dartmouth College. He has qualified 45 teams to the National Debate Tournament, 23 of which reached the elimination rounds. His 1997 team won the Copeland Award and one of his students won the 1993 NDT Top Speaker award. He has directed and coached at Debate Institutes for over 20 years.
Steve has served as the Chair of the college National Topic Committee for five years. As a debater he won the NDT Top Speaker Award and both NFL and NCFL national championships.
